We might use our tongue to taste some different common foods.  If your child has known allergies please let me know.  I will make a list of items we will taste after the class has had a chance to let me know items to be cautious of.

If you had a chance to see this before class, you are lucky! I only had time to take the picture and upload it an hour before our 6:30 pm science class tonight.

We will be talking about cause and effect tonight. Look at this picture. Do you know where it is taken? Can you tell two things that are happening in this picture? Hint: Look at the clouds and the flags.

We will be experimenting with kitchen chemistry tonight!

"What will happen if we add this?????"

It could be fun!

Simple Science Observation Week 1

Part of thinking scientifically is to become observant and note details.

Look at this picture taken recently.

We will be talking about this picture at our first class on Monday night.

Think of three questions to ask about this picture.
For example:

Where is this picture taken?
Who took this picture?
What time of day was this picture taken?

We will share our questions then try to find answers by looking at the picture. We will share all the facts we know.

Simple Science Five Week Plan

Welcome to Simple Science for Preschoolers on Monday nights at 6:30 PM. We begin on September 13th for five weeks. The interest in this program is very positive with a growing wait list. Because we hope to have a fast paced 30 minute lesson, with one story, a sort and classify activity, and several experiments, the limit for this program is 16 children with parents.

We will be doing many activities from Janice VanCleave’s books. The book "Teaching the Fun of Science to Young Learners Grades Pre-K-2" by Janice VanCleave provides a nice outline for introducing science in a group setting. I was very excited to find this book. We plan to work through the lessons and make adjustments to meet the needs of our class. Janice has even offered to provide parent tips and answer questions from our class. Someday we may even be able to have a web cast conversation with this wonderful author.

Please look at these dates and reply with your estimated attendance. I am including the weekly Science Concepts so you can see where we are heading with this program. Yes, all activities are planned to be fun and age appropriate. We will stretch our vocabulary.
